Most prophecies come from the NightWings—dragons known for their mysterious powers, foresight, and secrecy. These prophecies often foretell major events such as wars, chosen dragons (often called “dragonets of destiny”), or the rise and fall of rulers. Unlike simple predictions, Wings of Fire prophecies are layered and symbolic, using metaphors, imagery, and hidden meanings that are not immediately clear to the characters or the readers.

Accuracy and Interpretation

Prophecies in Wings of Fire are rarely direct or easy to interpret. While many prove accurate in their outcomes, the wording often leaves room for confusion or misinterpretation. For example, the Dragonet Prophecy predicts that five young dragons will end a decades-long war—but it doesn’t explain how or who among the queens will survive. Many characters twist or interpret lines differently to suit their hopes or fears. This ambiguity is intentional—it adds suspense to the story and allows characters to question whether prophecy is fate or manipulation.

How Prophecies Influence Dragon Decisions

Prophecies heavily influence how dragons act, lead, and even raise their children. Entire wars are fought or avoided based on a single line from a prophecy. The dragonets in the first arc are treated as weapons or saviors because of the Dragonet Prophecy, shaping their lives before they even hatch. Leaders like Queen Scarlet or Morrowseer use prophecies to maintain power, manipulate others, or justify their actions. For the dragonets themselves, prophecies bring pressure, responsibility, and identity struggles—forcing them to choose between their destiny and their personal desires.

Can Prophecies Be Changed or Avoided?

The series shows that prophecies are not always absolute—they can be misunderstood, altered, or even fabricated. Some NightWing prophecies, like the Dragonet Prophecy, are revealed to be partially manipulated for political gain. However, even when a prophecy seems predetermined, the dragons’ decisions still matter. The future may be hinted at, but the path to that future depends on choices, bravery, friendship, and sacrifice. This creates a balance between fate and free will—prophecies guide the story, but they do not control it entirely.
